The Merry Monarch

        King David Kalakua was born in Hawaii. He grew up with a good education and a good life. After the previous king died, Kalakaua was chosen to be King between him and Queen Emma. As a descendant of Kamehameha the First, he was a great ruler, but he was one of the Kings that played a major part in turning Hawaii into what it is now. He lived until he was eighty five years old, an old age for little medicine and technology. He ruled from 1874 until his death in 1891. He was a great King, but some say he changed Hawaii the most out of all the others.
